Ducted Fume Hoods provide a highly effective solution for removing hazardous exhaust fumes, vapors and particulate from the workplace by venting contaminated air outside the facility.

These systems are commonly used in laboratories, industrial facilities, chemical processing environments and research applications, and protect operators by capturing airborne contaminants at the source and directing them out safely through external ductwork.

Sentry Ducted Fume Hoods help maintain a safer work environment when handling volatile chemicals, solvents, powders and corrosive materials. Constructed from high-density polyethylene or acid-resistant polypropylene (depending on the model), these systems offer excellent chemical resistance and long-term durability in demanding applications.

The unit operates by drawing contaminated air away from the operator¡¯s breathing zone and exhausting it outside the building through ductwork. Unlike filtered ductless systems, ducted hoods typically do not rely on HEPA or carbon filtration. Instead, harmful fumes are continuously removed from the workspace entirely. An inline fan is available as an option for increased air flow.

This direct exhaust method minimizes the risk of hazardous vapors being recirculated back into the laboratory or work environment and is especially beneficial for applications involving:

  • High chemical volumes
  • Highly volatile compounds
  • Strong odors
  • Chemicals that cannot be effectively filtered
  • Corrosive vapors or acid gases

Applications

While ductless fume hoods are effective for many applications, some processes involving high chemical volumes, volatile compounds or elevated temperatures may require a ducted system. Ducted fume hoods are ideal for applications including:

  • Chemical transfer
  • Dilution processes
  • pH testing
  • Mixing operations
  • Light heating applications

These are especially important when strong odors or chemicals incompatible with carbon filtration are present. When selecting a fume hood, facilities should consider the type and volume of chemicals used, operating temperatures, frequency of use and applicable regulations. Consulting with a safety professional, industrial hygienist or chemical engineer is recommended to determine the best containment solution.

Benefits of a Ducted Fume Hood

  • Ducting releases contaminants outside the building away from the work environment
  • Continuous removal of harmful contaminants
  • High durability to withstand the use of various chemicals and minimize maintenance costs
  • Chemical compatibility
  • Acid-resistant ¨C standard exhaust hoods offer great chemical resistance. Our Acid Gas Fume Hood provides additional corrosion resistance capable of handling high volumes of acids.

Fume Hood Safety Considerations

Safe operation of your fume hood is critical to protecting your staff and anyone around it.

  • Consult with a local safety professional or industrial hygienist to help conform to local, state, and federal regulations of external venting.
  • Pedestrian traffic in front of the hood should be limited
  • They should be visually inspected frequently
  • Any bulky equipment should be placed at the rear of the hood
  • To allow for airflow, large equipment should be raised at least 2¡± off the surface
  • If your fume hood is used often, a regular cleaning schedule should be established

Sentry Air invests in certification processes and independent testing performed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) prior to offering any air infiltration products.
